PROCEEDS BENEFIT HOME OF THE SPARROW(HOS)
HOS provides transitional and affordable housing for homeless women and children. The mission of the organization is to serve women alone and mothers with children who are committed to improving their lives and who do not have a safe, stable, and secure place to live.
Home of the Sparrow differs fundamentally from emergency homeless shelters by working to permanently break the cycle of homelessness. HOS uses a selective process that only accepts clients who are dedicated to permanently changing their lives and moving from dependency to self-sufficiency.
There is long-term transitional housing, on-site counseling, a mentoring program, support agency referrals, and strict rules which must be followed as a condition of residency. Every adult resident must save at least 70 percent of her income after expenses and either find employment, enroll in job training, or complete her GED. In addition, a goal plan is monitored weekly and participation in parenting classes and budgeting/money management sessions is mandatory.
Home of the Sparrow's unique program, combining long term transitional housing with extensive training and support, provides the badly needed missing link between emergency housing and permanent housing. It empowers women to take control of their lives, overcome their homelessness, and prevent it from ever happening again.
