Home of the Sparrow honored their volunteers on Sunday, April 6. This year’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was hosted by the HOS staff and the Board of Directors at Paoli Presbyterian Church.

During the past year more than 400 volunteers contributed more than 6000 hours of service. Tasks included renovating a bathroom, painting, gardening, providing child care, driving women to appointments, assisting in our administrative office, fundraising and much, much more.

The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Lisa Schiel. Lisa has served on the Board of Directors for six years, chaired the fashion show, chaired the Jazz fundraiser for two consecutive years and also served as a mentor to one of our clients. Pennsylvania Senator Andrew Dinniman also honored Lisa with a Senatorial Citation acknowledging her service to the agency and the community.

The You Make a Difference Award was given to The Abbe Society of West Chester University in recognition for their support in offering babysitting and other services to the clients. Chris Schneck and Dylan Kane were both recipients of the Buddies Award for their outstanding achievement in our Buddy to Buddy mentoring program.

Guest speakers during the luncheon included three women who are currently participating in the program. Not only did they share their stories with us, but also expressed their sincere gratitude to the volunteers.

Although we have recognized specific organizations and individuals, each and every volunteer has made a significant difference to everyone in the program through all of their efforts.
