Home of the Sparrow honors Marie Dukes
Marie Dukes of Malvern was recently elected to Home of the Sparrow’s Board Emeritus. The Board of Directors honored Marie with this tribute in acknowledgement of her work on behalf of the agency since its inception in late 1994.
Marie and her husband Paul were amongst the original founders of Home of the Sparrow. While Paul served as treasurer of the Board of Directors, Marie organized volunteers and donations. She solicited furnishings and household goods for our initial two rental properties. Both Marie and Paul solicited contributions for Home of the Sparrow. Marie made pins in the shape of houses to be sold as a fundraiser.
When we purchased our first residence in West Chester in 1997, Marie assisted with renovations and began working on the furnishings. She sewed curtains and bedspreads and began an ongoing effort to collect paper goods and household supplies for each of our residences. She also worked with us on our second residence in 2000.
Marie served on our Board of Directors for six years and assisted with our fundraisers each year. She currently serves on our volunteer committee and our Jazz at Brushwood 2009 committee.
When asked about her most memorable moment at Home of the Sparrow she remarked, “Just seeing the growth! I have always been so proud to watch the agency expand and grow. It is one of my proudest accomplishments.”
The Board of Directors and Staff of Home of the Sparrow extend their profound thanks to Marie for her work on behalf of the women and children we serve.
